Chaktomuk

Thursday, November 25, 2010

The area around Phnom Penh has been inhabited for at least 2000 years, probably much longer. The area enters the historical record in the 15th century AD when it was known as Chaktomuk ( mean the Four Faces) so called for its location at the four-branched confluence of the Mekong River a river crossroads in the heart of Cambodia, the Sap river running to the agricultural heartland and the Angkorian capital, and the Mekong River north to Laos and south to the open sea, Phnom Penh is before all else the city at Chaktomuk. The first record of the name Phnom Penh comes in the telling of the legend of Lady Penh.

Travelers along the Cambodia without company experienced sexual harassment far less annoying than in other Asian countries like India and Indonesia. Cambodia is a Buddhist country and there is no sexual repression that occurs in many of its neighbors, so the Western women tend not to call much attention.

Having said this, as long as you go alone you must have a sharp eye, for example, when you do at night or wandering around empty.

In general, regular exercise caution when traveling without followed with huge.

Collateral Damage

Tuesday, November 23, 2010

In August 1973, in the campaign of secret war against Cambodia, the B-52s bombed by mistake at Neak Luong, outpost of the Khmer Rouge. The attack caused 137 civilian deaths, 268 injured and destroyed the village, and the U.S. government tried to hide the fact, preventing the leading newspaper in Cambodia go to the site. but the journalist Sydney Schanberg, one of the characters in the film The Killing Fields, made it to the people. published in a boat and the truth of the horror. Once caught, the U.S. administration offered a hundred dollar of compensation to families for every civilian killed (Is it worth much the life of a Cambodian?) And the pilot was fined seven hundred bucks U.S. for not returning to wrong man, which is very bad.

Climate

Climate

Cambodia enjoys a tropical climate with only two seasons: dry and rainy, which in turn are the product of the regular cycle governing monsoon rainfall index. Thus, between the months of November to April northeast monsoon prevails, which brings with it a little rainfall and is characterized by cold dry winds.

By contrast, from May to October monsoon component change and arrives from the southwest, bringing with him a lot of humidity from the ocean, causing heavy rains accompanied by strong winds and high temperature. As regards the latter variable, the hottest month is April, when the thermometer can reach more than 35
˚c.  While the softer January, to keep the average around 20 ˚cHowever, both temperature and moisture tend to maintain high throughout the year, what we call warmth is present at all times.

With respect to the rains, these can reach more than 5.000mm. Year in the highlands, while in the central plateau  maintained around 1.400mm. in the same period. During the rainy season the showers tend to be violent but short, and tend to fall mainly in the afternoon.

   Prehistoric Period
Evidence suggests the presence of occupation in Cambodia in the prehistoric period.
can be traced. It is likely, though, that inhabitants throughout mainland south-east Asia
Cambodia, Burma, Laos, Thailand and Vietnam developed basic skills such as the cultivation of rice, the domestication of the ox and buffalo and the use of metals, and practiced animistic worship at about the same time and in a similar way. The earliest settlement found so far at
Lo ang Spean in Battambang province has produced evidence or occupation over 6,000 years go. The people lived in caves and knew the techniques of polishing stone and decorating pottery with cord-marked, combed and cared designs.
A second prehistoric site, Bas- Plateaux in Kompong Cham province, has yielded radiocarbon dates from the second century BC. The inhabitants of this later site lived in groups resembling villages. Their level of domestication was similar to that of the people of Lo ang spean. Samrong Sen in central Cambodia, a third prehistoric site, was occupied about 1500 BC. Opinions differ as to when the prehistoric period ended, but  it is generally agreed it occurred sometime between 500 BC and AD 100.

About Me

Welcome to everyone on behalf of one of the Khmer kids, born and grew up in farmer family, range in the third among six siblings. I'm glad to tell you of my background. Have you ever asked yourself , who you are? where you from? what would you do for your life? would you help others if you could? Have you expected things are happened and good as you planed? Well, my opinion is perhaps YES,  some failed, but  don’t be hopeless, as long as you still could see the sun still shines, the wind blows.
Life as a teen
Circumstances had changed my mind after high school, I didn’t  attend  university, I took an adventure life of being alone in a  poor community, lived as a land keeper for a police officer. It was hard work just moving back to the rice fields again. However, I was really glad of being experiences with the people there, I planted vegetables,  encouraged people to have confidence,  teach their kids to learn how to improve their lives to see the whole universe. I always though that, what should I do to improve the whole community as in the whole country. As the time goes, my mind turn to them, you probably can’t understand us  whether, how would we feel when we saw our plants growing well and yielded, also see all the children are educated, and these  what we want and now all is happening.

My ambition to see all edges of the remote areas are developed and to promote to the people in the whole world come to visit the countrysides and even spend weeks with farmers. Finally, what I need to tell you is concluded, but I want you to know more deeply their daily life to see what is changing at the countrysides, of course you can get some experiences too. Now, I’m glad that I could tell you through this blog that I just started by a generous monk his name Paneath. God gives me the light!
